The author, whose books have dealt with what defines popularity and what underlies decisions, told RIM’s Wireless Enterprise Symposium that what makes Facebook different is not just the social networking phenomenon or the number of users it has, but the age and attention span of those users.

… the United Methodist Church, has opted for a boldly redesigned web presence to ask users, “What if church wasn’t just a building, but thousands of doors? Each of them opening up to a different concept or experience of church – and a journey that could change our world. Would you come?”

10ThousandDoors.org goes far beyond a Facebook page or Twitter account. It pulls in information scraped from the web to track trending topics, then curates collections of articles on those subjects.

Firefox Could Be the Real Facebook Challenger

Firefox doesn’t keep track of the number of users it has but Asa Dotzler, Mozilla’s director of community development, said today that the company estimates that there are 270 million people using the browser. That’s 35% more users than Facebook has signed up for accounts (200 million), and almost triple the number of people Facebook says log in to the social network every day (100 million).
